The Pickup Artist, Mystery (Erik Von Markovich ) who single handedly conceived the Mystery Method, is now respected as one for the worlds greatest pickup artist. He has been in various publications, spoken at many seminars and has been invited to guest speak at dozens of men’s self-development conferences specializing in how to pick up women and be the pickup artist.

Mystery has a prominent reputation in the seduction community and he’s been given many accolades over the last several years. Some pickup artist and pick-up gurus even would call Mystery one of the grandfathers of the seduction community. Little do people know that Mystery was not always a great pickup artist and he didn’t even have average success when it came to picking up women. He was frustrated with his life and forced himself to learn more about the art of pick up. I won’t go back that far into Mystery’s life and how he became who he is now, but you can read more about his life in Neil Strauss’s bestseller book “The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists”.

The Mystery Method is Mystery’s systematic approach on how to seduce a woman. He goes around the world teaching this method trough seminars and boot camps. Students signing up to learn this system will be taught by the best of the pickup artists for a hefty price. Although nowadays Mystery doesn’t do much instructing and teaching, he has now become more of an icon in the community, and instead has some of his best students now teaching the guys who really lack the social skills and confidence needed to pickup and seduce a woman.

The Mystery Method is a simple logical design, made clear and easy for most men to become the pickup artist and have the life they’ve always dreamed of. It is devised of 3 phases. Attract your target; building Comfort with her; seduce her (sex). Then there are 3 sub parts of each phase; A (1–3), C (1–3), S (1–3). There are many canned lines or openers used when approaching the group of girls called ‘the set.’ One method makes use of a backhanded compliment, which mystery coined ‘negging.’  A neg is very similar to what David DeAngelo (DeAngelo is the creator of Double Your Dating, another popular system everyone in the community knows of) would call cocky & funny, a comment which is very arrogant mixed with humor and spoken in a very playful manor, almost where the target can’t figure out if your serious or just playing. I call this playful teasing or flirting, some say bantering, it’s all the same. The system is very logical & analytical in my opinion, although it does work well. Sometimes I question if Mystery created this orderly system with a more logical target audience of men in mind. However it has become very famous and every pickup artist in the seduction community has read The Mystery Method book at least once.

The Pickup Artist Mystery, has had proven results with his world famous system, featured in many newspaper and magazine publications; along with various television interviews and appearances. So why then is he constantly criticized by the community and the media? I think there are many other pickup artist in the community who are now teaching more natural game and they pick apart Mystery’s methods and routines for being un-natural and scripted. The man is also very tall and wears clothes you would never see another man wearing at a club. This is also part of his system, a method of dressing up called ‘Peacocking.’ Mystery will usually be seen wearing black eye makeup, black nail polish, big boots, a tall furry hat with goggles on his head. He tends to dress very Goth or Emo in my opinion. Who wouldn’t laugh and poke fun at the man. Others criticize his unusual tactics; one idea is that It takes 7 hours to go through all the stages finishing at the seduction or sex phase. I know many natural pickup artists who totally disagree with this theory. I myself have gotten to the seduction phase in much less then 7 hours and was still able to have a healthy relationship with the girl. So I think it’s more of a general rule for beginners and there are always exceptions to every rule of the pickup artist.

Even with all the knocking Mystery gets, he still has a huge following. He now has his own reality TV show on VH1 called ‘The Pickup Artist.’ On this show a handful of guys chosen by mystery called ‘lovable losers’ will compete for the title of the pickup artist master. These guys will be given top-notch training while living in a mansion in Austin, TX; paid for by VH1 of course.

Mystery and his wingmen give these chumps lessons and assignments they must complete. Then they must us the skills they have learned in the field at a bar or club in downtown. The winner does the best job on the task or picks up the most women that night. The loser will have to leave the house and can’t continue training with the world best pickup artist Mystery. While being a funny drama filled reality show, it does give some very informative information to guys watching out there. I think in the long run it will help Mystery’s business grow while giving him even more publicity. I also see ‘The Pickup Artist’ show boosting the status of the seduction community on all levels. Since the show aired already are there more inquiries into the different books and programs in the pickup artist community.
